A state-level advocacy workshop — “Addressing Sexual Reproductive Health in Humanitarian Settings” was held today at Peerless Inn Hotel in the heart of Kolkata. This special workshop was organized by Family Planning Association of India (FPA India), Kolkata Branch.
The program began with registration at 1:30 pm. The inaugural address was delivered by the organization’s Branch Manager Mr. Supratip Majumdar. This was followed by the welcome address by Dr. Tinni Dutta, Chairperson.
The keynote address was delivered by a representative of the State Disaster Management Department, where important aspects of the role of sexual and reproductive health services during disasters were highlighted.
The context of the program was set by Tusar Chakraborty, Branch Manager of FPAI’s Kalchini Branch. Dr. Amit Kitkule (SPRINT Program Manager) highlighted the main points of the event through an online PowerPoint presentation and other distinguished guests spoke on reproductive health, humanitarian assistance, and the role of various stakeholders.
Representatives from the State Family Welfare Officer, State Disaster Management Authority, Inter-Agency Group (IAG), Red Cross, District Family Welfare Officer, WHO, District Disaster Management Officer, Lions and Rotary Clubs participated in the workshop. Eminent lawyer Monirul Islam praised the work of APPI during disasters.
The discussion focused on ensuring health awareness and safe services for women and adolescents during disasters. The workshop concluded with an open question and answer session based on the active opinions of all participants. The meeting was attended by about 50+ dignitaries.
