Meesho empowers over 40,000 small businesses from West Bengal

Meesho, India’s only true e-commerce marketplace, announced that more than 40,000 small businesses from West Bengal are now registered on the platform. Meesho has witnessed a significant increase in the number of micro, small & medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the state joining the platform in the past year, driven by the company’s industry-first initiatives like zero- commission and the level playing field it has created for small businesses.

The top categories preferred by the suppliers in the region include apparel, personal care & wellness, consumer electronics and home décor.

Since its inception, Meesho has played a vital role in supporting and enabling small businesses across the country, especially those from tier 2 and tier 3 cities. In fact, nearly 50% of all Meesho sellers hail from tier 2+ cities such as Amritsar, Rajkot, Hubli, Kozhikode, Jamshedpur and Tiruppur. Meesho also recently became the fastest  e-commerce company in India to cross the 1 million seller milestone, amassing this formidable seller base within just eight years of inception. Out of the total 1.1 million sellers on the platform, more than 80% of them are new-to-ecommerce and selling online for the first time.

On the consumer side, Meesho recorded more than 140 million transacting users in 2022, with customers from tier 2+ markets accounting for 80% of all shoppers. According to leading mobile data analytics provider, Meesho has emerged as the world’s fastest shopping app to cross 500 million cumulative downloads across Google Play and iOS App Store combined, reaching this milestone in just six years. More than half of these downloads (274 million) came in 2022, with value-seeking consumers across India flocking to the platform.
