Shankar Jyoti Eye Institute organized a press conference at its New Town branch on Friday, July 31st. During the event, a comprehensive month-long diabetic retinopathy screening campaign was announced, aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of timely eye examinations for individuals with diabetes. Over 100 million people in India suffer from diabetes, and an estimated 21 million or more are at risk of developing diabetic retinopathy. Without timely screening and treatment, millions face the risk of severe vision loss. As the disease often progresses without noticeable symptoms in its early stages, regular retinal screening is essential for early detection and timely intervention. Through this campaign, Shankar Jyoti Eye Institute (New Town) aims to raise public awareness, encourage regular retinal check-ups, and reduce preventable vision loss caused by diabetes. Dr. Shibashis Das (MBBS, MS—Gold Medalist), a Medical Retina Specialist and Director of the Institute, was present at the press conference.
